CRIME DISPLACEMENT THEORY

Police officers don’t stop crime, we simply displace it.

Here’s a new flash: Police officers and security professionals do not stop crime. Criminal’s intent on committing crime will always have the commitment to engage in their criminal acts until they are caught and incarcerated, become too old, or simply die.  As such, it is important police and security professionals understand and acknowledge this basic premise and design their crime-fighting strategies with this in mind. It’s important to reiterate that police officers arrest certain criminals for committing certain crimes, but crime as a whole will continue, it’s simply a matter of where it’s allowed to.

Once this premise is understood, police officers can move crime out of their jurisdictions and keep it out. To accomplish this, there needs to be a shared organized plan of action, along with a commitment by police commanders to the successfully proven methods agreed upon. In addition, police commanders have to be willing to lead their staff in a manner that sets the tone and reinforces accountability to the citizens as a whole.

All criminals commit crimes thinking they won’t get caught. Criminals prey on weak or unprotected victims; they are all opportunistic in nature and look for the right opportunity to victimize someone. Any city or county wanting to reduce crime in their jurisdiction must look at crime and address it with a program similar to a Neighborhood Watch or Business Watch Program, only on a much larger, all-encompassing scale. The goal should be geared toward taking the opportunity away from the criminals, creating a police or security omnipresence, keeping the pressure on to always displace crime from their city or county.

Adopt-A-COP Solutions proposes to install a number of cutting-edge law enforcement technologies and institute programs that will facilitate this theory into a reality. That reality and goal is to move crime from strategic locations within our clients jurisdiction to areas outside of them. We also utilize the latest in high-tech technologies to assist our clients in gaining the necessary evidence to be used in court to prosecute and incarcerate the offenders.
